Why are the bugs hard to kill?
Bed Bugs are Smarter than you Think
Bed bugs are easy to kill by simply squishing them, that is if you can find them first. Totally gross when you see the blood squirt out. The problem is that bed bugs can hide deep in small spaces, close by like inside your box spring or a crack in the bed frame or farther away on the curtains, behind a picture or in a dresser. They will routinely travel as far as a 10-foot radius from their hiding places (and back) in one night to feast on you, their delicious host.
Bed bugs are very smarter than you think. They can detect (and often avoid) chemicals and cleaning agents. My thoughts are that you are better off drinking alcohol rather than spraying it around. Even professional pesticides have limited ability to win the war as bed bugs are becoming more and more resistant to the chemicals. In previous eras, pesticides were effective but were found to have cancer causing agents. Given the choice – The Big C or Bed Bugs, I choose bed bugs.
If they become desperate, they will climb up the wall and onto the ceiling above your bed. At this point, they will let go and drop down onto your bed. Sneaky buggers.
Scientists are always looking for new ways to knock out bed bugs and find their Achilles Heel, but for now, we know that bed bugs die when heated to a temperature in excess of 45C. Of course, we at Bed Bugs Dead Bugs Inc. recommend renting a bed bug heater to turn your bed bugs into dead bugs. Let us help you win the Battle of the Bug.
