How A Bed Bug Steamer Can Kill Covid 19
Years ago, when I got bed bugs, I never thought I would say that it was one of the best things to happen to me. When my tenants called saying they found bed bugs, I started researching how to kill them. Pesticides were known to be losing effectiveness and the bed bugs became more and more resistant to them. The deeper I dug, the closer I came to believe that heat was the best solution. The only problem was that a heat treatment from a big heat truck was going to cost thousands of dollars. I had just purchased this house as an investment and there were the year’s profits gone in the first month.
Eventually, I discovered the equipment we use to this day. The problem was that the equipment was expensive and I wanted to rent it. The only choice was propane heaters through the local rental store. I knew that was not safe. That’s when the lightbulb went on. Why don’t I buy the equipment, treat my tenants, and then start a bed bug heater rental company? Those are the roots of Bed Bugs Dead Bugs. We still use the same equipment today. It has changed and improved over the years, just like our business model has changed and improved.
The world today has changed and will never go back to pre-Covid days of hugs and kisses all around. Friend or foe, we keep our social distance and then some. If you have teens like me, you probably learned the Tik Tok foot greeting dance and were singing the song from the Little Mermaid, “I want to go where the people are. See them dancing……..” while staring out your window.
We are now some five weeks into quarantine and social distancing and going a bit stir crazy. Any time I leave my home, my anxiety level escalates and things that would never have concerned me before are top of my list. A trip to the grocery store involves gloves, masks, and sanitizing the grocery cart handle immediately upon making it through the line up to get into the store. I am thankful the weather is warmish, even if it not the warmest spring on record as I wait my turn.
Recently, Bed Bugs Dead Bugs invested in a professional steamer as an added method of treatment for bed bug infestations. The steamer blasts out a jet of vapor that is 160C and kills bed bugs and their eggs on contact. The steamer comes with numerous attachments so you can tackle hard surfaces like laminate, hardwood, and tile as well as soft surfaces like your mattress and sofa. A professional steamer means you can sanitize carpeting with the floor tool, blast a jet of steam into the baseboard and the bedframe with the wand and steam clean your mattress. Customers were really happy with the results and the added sense of having won the war on bed bugs. An added bonus is that when they were finished battling the bed bugs, they used the same steamer to clean their bathroom tile and grout and their kitchen tiles and stove.
I could never have imagined writing this blog about how our bed bug steamer could save your sanity in a whole new way. Our professional steamer is also a primary tool that can be used to battle Covid 19. The powerful stream of vapor will sanitize and disinfect just about any surface and will reach into nooks and crannies. Sanitizing wipes and liquids are a good defense, but a blast of steam will give you that same peace of mind that my bed bug customers experience.
I believe we will look at cleanliness as being more than just a “nice to have”. Tomorrow’s customers are going to be demanding sanitization on a whole new level. No longer will a quick wipe of the table at your favorite restaurant be comforting. Consumers are going to be expecting a much high level of clean with sanitizing wipes being the norm. I, for one, am probably going to be living with a rube of Lysol wipes in my bag at all times. I will never again walk into the seniors’ home to visit my dad again with squirting myself with Purell.
What is interesting is that my son fell in love with my bed bug steamer and has been developing his own business around renting the steamer to homeowners and restaurants. Remember the days when you would go out for dinner to a local favorite restaurant. If you were lucky, the restroom would be on the same floor, but more often than not, the restrooms are located in the dark, dank basements. I can picture myself going down the stairs and holding the handrail while looking at each step and thinking, geez, these stairs are filthy. The once white or grey grout is now black with a thousand swipes of the greywater bucket and rag mop.
Today, I would be still holding the handrail, but with my Lysol wipe in hand. It won’t be enough to just use a paper towel to open the door. My Lysol wipe is going to be taking that paper towel’s place.
Imagine if my son’s business Steam Solutions Toronto were to take that restaurant bathroom to a whole new level of sanitized. The steam cleaner can clean the grout, toilet seat, handles, faucets, etc. and disinfect hard to reach areas. Imagine the sense of well-being you would have walking into a pristine bathroom. I would think that if restaurants keep their bathrooms ultra-clean, I will believe that every other area is also ultra-clean.
In closing, I hope that you and your loved ones are safe, and we will get through this pandemic and be the wiser for it. Hopefully, it will be at least another hundred years or more before anything like this ever happens again and we will have learned from the Pandemic of 2020.
