Bed Bugs in Moving Trucks

You have just moved into your new home only to discover a bed bug on your first night there.  There are no signs on any infestation in the house.  How did it get there? You didn’t have bed bugs at their old place and the landlord swears that there were no bed bugs in the new place.

One of our customers this week can only surmise that the bug came in with the furniture from the moving van.   It’s a pretty good guess.  Moving companies are handling people’s furniture every day and it is quite possible that one of their previous customers had bed bugs that fell off in the van and then attached themselves to your furniture.

Upon referring to our Bed Bug Life Cycle chart, we determined that the bug they found was a male based on its round shape.  It is possible that there was just the one bed bug.  Our customers decided to purchase bed bug mattress covers as a precaution and as a easy way of monitoring to see if any more bug showed up.  The bed bug mattress cover would seal in any live bugs on the mattress and allow for fast and easy identification of more bugs in the room. These signs would include blood smears on the white cover or bugs nesting on the zipper.

A bed bug mattress cover is always a good investment as it will protect your mattress andlast you a lifetime. It is an affordable first step in containing any infestation.  I have my fingers crossed that this solves our customers problems, but we are at the ready if they decided to heat treat to kill any more bed bugs, should they show up.
