Bed Bugs at Sumemr Camp
Prepare Yourself for Bed Bugs at Summer Camp
There is nothing more terrifying than your child coming back from a fun summer at camp and bringing bed bugs as a souvenir. Bed Bugs love camping as much as we do. All that fresh air warm bodies are too much to resist. Plus, they get to travel from one cabin to another as campers traipse around site, visiting new found friends and renewing friendships from last summer.
RULE NUMBER 1: When your camper comes home, put everything, and I mean everything, through the dryer. Wash the dirty laundry and bake everything else in the dryer.
Personally, I never grew up. I love camp. I don’t love camping, I love going into the wilderness and having a bed to sleep on and meals provided. I think they call it Glamping. In any event, this week, I went to a very popular camp and, upon arrival, discovered two very dead bed bugs on my mattress. I am the bed bug expert. I inspected the place and determined that they had a few bed bugs last year but there was absolutely no evidence of live bed bugs. I put myself out there as Guinea pig. After two night and no bites, I felt secure in the knowledge that we were safe from bugs.
However, we need to teach our kids on how to inspect for bed bugs and how to identify a bed bug bite other that of a mosquito or spider bite.
