Do Bed Bugs Run Away from Heat?
Will Bed Bugs run to another room when I use Heat Treatment?
I get this question a lot. Customers are worried that if they heat up one room, the bed bugs will run to the next room.
After years of experience, I can give you a definitive answer. Bed bugs will fall off surfaces like the mattress, curtains or bed frame when the temperature starts to reach around 41C. At this time, they will wander around in a circle, trying to figure out what is happening. Why is it so hot in here?
As the temperature rises to over 45C, the bed bugs slow down more and more. They then dry up and turn into a little speck of dust. You may see some dead bugs in the room after treatment or they may have blown away.
The other question I get asked is, “Will heat kill Cockroaches?”
In a laboratory situation, cockroaches die at the same temperature as bed bugs. The difference is that bed bugs run away fast and will squeeze through any crack to escape. Heat is not the ideal solution for cockroaches.
