4 Signs of Bed Bugs
While bed bug bites are usually the first thing people notice, luckily, bed bugs leave behind 4 other signs of their presence…
#1: Feces and Stains
Shortly after feeding, bed bugs poop. The dark stains look like a felt tip marker dotted and smeared on your pillow case, sheets or mattress. Pay attention to the staples in the box spring as this is one of the first places baby bed bugs hide out.
#2: Blood Smears and Stains
Blood stains are the result of blood-filled bed bugs being crushed when you roll over. They appear on the sheets, mattress or even your PJs.
#3: Cast Off Shells
As baby bed bugs move toward adulthood, they shed their skin a total of 5 times. Cast off shells are lighter in colour than adult bed bugs and are more likely to be found on the seams of your mattress or the cross bars of your bed frame.
#4: Eggs
Bed bug eggs very, very tiny and almost impossible to spot. They can lay up to ten eggs in a screw hole and often require a magnifying glass to view them. Finding eggs is a sign of a significant bed bug population.
The above signs are indications of a possible bed bug infestation – treat them as definite clues to their presence.
Bed bugs don’t go away on their own. Bed bugs are very skilled at hiding. Some customers never see a live bug but know that after using a heat treatment, they are no longer getting bites. The heat treatment will also kill other pests like dust mites and carpet beetles.
